Meet the piece that took me two years to finish…and that I had to get a lot of help naming!
I started this painting a few months after my daughter was born, around the time when we all finally started sleeping well that I felt vaguely creative again. I mostly did it for fun, not as a piece I’d later share, and intended this house to be one that I would personally like to live inside.
I got about 80% done with it…and I set it aside for other projects and forgot about it for two years.
When I picked the piece up again, I reworked some colors and adjusted some proportions, but I really wanted to turn this into a more illustrative, story-based painting. So, I added the man, a bouquet of flowers, and a dog waiting at the door. I left things open-ended, so you could decide exactly what their story is. In my own head, he’s returning home after something difficult and at long last can have peace again.
