Art print from my original acrylic painting, "Pemberley”. This is inspired by the setting of Pride and Prejudice, particularly the magnificent estate of Mr. Darcy. It also uses floriography - the Victorian language of flowers - to tell the story!
In the foreground are tiger lilies and amaryllis, which stand for arrogance and wealth, and lavender for distrust. Around the bench where Darcy’s letter to Elizabeth sits are irises, for trust. On down the path from this letter are gardenias for secret love, violets for faithfulness, and chamomile for strength in adversity. Around the pond are more tiger lilies, since Mr. Darcy is still fabulously wealthy and proud - just not in a bad way anymore. Closer to the mansion, where Elizabeth eventually comes to live after her marriage to Mr. Darcy, are morning glories for affection and finally red roses for deep love.
